Bush Gets Hit with Shoe

What do we think about this incident with Pres. Bush getting a shoe in the face? Is it an affective protest to displeasure with authority? Unacceptable chaos? Unimportant? I find it a bit exhilarating, and wish that I had the moxie to show my frustration in a similar way... but what do you all think?

hmm.. i think it's a little ridiculous, and not particularly effective. (what exactly was he trying to accomplish, anyways?) i also think Bush came out of it looking pretty good (by casually laughing it off), and thus there might have been some unintended consequences...

If nothing else, it seems appropriate for his last visit to Iraq. While not ducking flying shoes (fairly adeptly, I might add), Bush was using his trip to expound one last time on the great success of the U.S. adventure in Iraq. The same day, the New York Times published yet another leaked report on the incompetence of the reconstruction effort that, after billions of dollars and thousands of deaths, "never did much more than restore what was destroyed during the invasion and the convulsive looting that followed."

See that article at: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/14/world/middleeast/14reconstruct.html?_r=1&scp=1&sq=iraq%20report&st=cse

I agree with Laura. I think it is an appropriate ending to his legacy in Iraq. Bush, the U.S., and the rest of the world should never forget the miserable failure that is the Iraq war. This act of rebellion by an Iraqi journalist helps us all remember that they don't want the U.S. there...just in case anyone forgot over the "surge celebrations."
